SETTING THE BAR: CHRISTOPHER NOLAN ON TDKR

As the stage lights shut off, the props are placed back into their shelves, and as the last crew member sweeps the debris; The Dark Knight Rises is set for the July rampage. Christopher Nolan who teased the fans all over the place while quietly smirking to himself at the end of his masterpiece of Batman. This grim trilogy of Batman from his start as a vigilante to the dark legend of justice. Batman came back with a vengeance in the 21st century with hard hitting psychological and philosophical sophistication.   The conclusion to all this, Nolan gives us two characters that will shake up  Batman in Geoff Boucher’s article, Christopher Nolan’s Masked Ambitions:

“Nolan said this film’s introduction of a masked, hulking terrorist called Bane (Hardy) and the enigmatic Selina Kyle (Hathaway) sets the stage for an “appropriate conclusion” for Bruce Wayne’s odyssey as a vigilante sent into the shadows by the childhood sight of his parents’ bodies bleeding in the street.”

Nolan picked very interesting villainous characters who will challenge both Bruce and Batman psychologically and philosophically. Selina Kyle/Catwoman’s very essence is to challenge Bruce/Batman and Bane is no exception to that challenge, but he takes a more of a skilled hand to hand approach. The pair could over throw Heath Ledger’s The Joker reign in The Dark Knight. Even though, the two are separate they can be just as epic to hold a candle to the Joker.

Nolan states:

“Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story. Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story. And in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story … unlike the comics, these things don’t go on forever in film and viewing it as a story with an end is useful.”

Chris Courbold, Special Effects supervisor who did Inception states how Batman trilogy is very similar to

Batman Begins

The Lord of the Rings. It is the hero’s journey that we all love in action movies filled with challenging concepts that leave you mesmerized. Since the success of The Dark Knight, tons of fans have tried to find to theorize the finale of the trilogy. Nolan continues to smirk to himself knowing full well what a masterpiece he will bestow to us. I just hope that we can hold out long enough to still be excited and in awe of his mastering at directing and concept.

Do you think Nolan picked two villainous characters will who top the Joker, or do you think Bane will hold more weight than Catwoman? Is the Batman trilogy just as epic as The Lord of the Rings? Comment below or on DKN Facebook on your thoughts of Nolan setting the Batman bar.
