KATANA ON JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, WHY?

The addition of Catwoman on Justice League of America (JLA) was a bit of a shocker for people. The other addition who should have been mentioned was Katana from Birds of Prey (BOP) There was little given about the character until today. David Finch (artist of Batman: The Dark Knight) dishes out a little about JLA:

To be totally honest, I talked to Geoff (writer of Justice League) quite a bit about who he thought the characters are and just what the personalities would be — that was very important to me — but as far as the team goes, that was all Geoff. He had very specific reasons for each of the characters being in there. He had very specific reasons for why every character fit.

It’s great having the team being as diverse as possible, because society is culturally diverse. The more we learn about each other’s cultures, the better rounded we become as a society. For the book, it brings a great dimension to it.

DC Comics (DC) was bashed not too long ago about their lack of diversity in The New 52’s, this is DC saying “we’re complying.” It is very shocking to have such characters on JLA, it is almost amazing that Geoff Johns can pull that off.  Now what of Katana? Finch explains his excitement over Katana:

Katana

Katana is actually a character I really liked from doing “Birds of Prey” covers. I think she has a great costume design. It’s a lot of fun to draw. Also, I really like drawing a character that uses swords. And with her martial arts background, a lot of her stances and poses are really fun for me to draw too. I think there is a lot of mystery with the character too because of her mask.

Now, what we should be asking is “what is her purpose on the team and what happened to her on BOP?” A more interesting question would be how will Geoff Johns portray Katana on JLA?

Comment down below, DKN Facebook,  DKNewsCom, or on DC Comics Fans. If you can think of anything. I’m stumped.
