The Legend Continues This July In ‘Grayson’

graysonFans of Dick Grayson can now breathe a sigh of relief because we can now confirm that his death in Forever Evil #6 will not be permanent. It’s safe to assume that he will be revived in #7  and May’s Nightwing #30 (that series’ final issue) will perhaps serve as a transitional story for the character’s new status quo.

And what will that new status quo be, you ask? This July, a new series will launch in the form of Grayson.  The original Robin who later became Nightwing and Batman for a few years will stay “dead” in a sense. You see, Bruce Wayne will suggest to Dick that he hide the truth of his living/ breathing status from the Bat-Family and the world as a whole.

Here’s the kicker: Dick Grayson will no longer be a superhero, but a super-spy.  Being a fan of Splinter Cell and Burn Notice, this intrigues me very much. Do you remember the agency know as Spyral from the pages of Batman Incorporated? They will be his new employers. It’s also highly fitting that the series will be co-written by Tom King, a former CIA counterterrorism operations officer. Joining him on writing duties will be Tim Seeley (Batman Eternal) and art will be provided by Mikel Janin (Justice League Dark). (You can check out Janin’s cover for Grayson #1 above.)

Another exciting detail is that the new creative team plans to give Dick Grayson a quintessential archnemesis. “He’s always been a character who hasn’t had a villain associated with him,” King told USA Today. “We want to give him his Lex Luthor, his Joker.”

With so many shakeups happening during the year of Batman’s 75th Anniversary, it’s quite an exciting time to be a fan of the Dark Knight and his pals.

After falling into a vat of chemicals, this fellow adopted the name "Eric Joseph." Some say he is a freelance writer, while others say he can be found frequenting conventions and nightspots in the Detroit area. Needless to say, he prefers his background to be multiple choice.
