WB Announces Justice League, Zack Snyder to Direct

The news that most of us have already predicted and have been waiting for quite some time is upon us. Greg Silverman, WB president of worldwide production, has officially announced the live-action Justice League movie to follow 2016’s Batman Vs. Superman. Silverman released little details regarding the flick, except that Zack Snyder will direct. Though no official casting announcements have been made, we can probably expect that Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Gal Gadot will be returning as Clark Kent/Superman, Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Diana/Wonder Woman, respectively.

Silverman said, “It will be a further expansion of this universe. Superman Vs. Batman will lead into Justice League.”

There is no release date at the moment and the script is still being written… which means we will not be seeing it for quite a while. Wall Street Journal estimates that we’ll likely not see it before 2018. Silverman did not reveal exactly which superheroes will comprise this iteration of the legendary team, though with the recent casting of Ray Fisher as Cyborg and his induction into the JL as a prominent member in the comics, it’s likely we’ll be seeing him in the lineup.

Unfortunately, any hopes of a Gal Gadot-headlined Wonder Woman solo movie are not currently in the plans, but executives are interested. On Wonder Woman, Sue Kroll, president of worldwide marketing, said, “That is our hope. With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her.” You bet we are.

Though it’s been speculated for months now that that was exactly what WB was planning, it’s nice to have an official confirmation for once. I know a lot of people are not quite as happy with the direction that they’re going, preferring them to go the Marvel method of universe expansion, but I could not be more ecstatic. We’ve got the Avengers movie and now I need a Justice League movie and I’d rather it be sooner than later. If WB went the pace that Marvel went, we’d likely not see a Justice League movie for another decade. I understand the argument that they should take their time to properly craft their universe, but I can’t wait for them to do that.

What do you think? Are you excited? Or is it too soon?
