After a recent announcement that Morena Baccarin’s Leslie Thompkins would be promoted to series regular for the show’s sophomore season, it has now been revealed that Harvey Dent will share the same fate. This is interesting considering the fact that Thompkins was appearing in every episode by the end of the season, and Dent was not. Nicholas D’Agosto made sparse appearances, really only coming in when needed, and that kept his character fresh and interesting.
With any luck, the series will find new ways to keep the character fresh without oversaturating him or dropping too many hints too quickly. D’Agosto is clearly excited to return, though, as he took to Twitter to confirm the news.
Thank you to all of you @Gotham and #HarveyDent fans for your enthusiasm. I can't wait to join more of the fun as a regular in Season 2!

Obviously, the character of Harvey Dent is best known for becoming the villain Two-Face. There’s no word at this time at how much of that tragic backstory we will see as the series unfolds. Given that Dent does not traditionally become Two-Face until after Bruce becomes Batman, it’s unlikely that we’ll ever see him become the villain on the show. But Gotham has not been shy about deviating from comic origins in the past, so Dent’s role to play in the developing story still remains to be seen.
Either way, we will find out when Gotham returns this Fall.
