Iconic 60’s Batmobile For Sale!

Want to own a piece of television and pop-culture history? Barrett-Jackson is offering the iconic 60s Batmobile for sale at its Barrett-Jackson Collection Showroom in Scottsdale, Arizona!

One of the most instantly recognizable automobiles in television history, the 1966 Batmobile became an instant pop-culture phenomenon. Built by renowned auto-customizer, George Barris, the car took on a life of its own. Barris purchased the futuristic 1955 Ford Futura vehicle for $1 after Ford Motor Company decided to scrap the concept. Barris’ vision paid off when ABC Television contacted him about building a car for their upcoming TV show, Batman. Redesigned and built within a tight three-week timeframe, complete with cool gadgets and a trademark look, the 1960’s Batmobile caught the attention and imagination of Bat-fans everywhere. To this day, the iconic vehicle carries a sentimentality previously unseen and since unmatched.

Make no mistake, the car for sale is not some fan-made replica. This is Batmobile #1 – the original, created by George Barris! The sale marks only the second time the original Batmobile has been sold. The first came in 2013, when Barris himself sold the car at auction for a cool $4.2M.

What will happen this time around? One thing is certain, the original 1960’s Batmobile will command a hefty sum. Current estimates put a price tag anywhere in the $5-6M range. According to the Barrett-Jackson listing, the sale will also include original documentation, historical memorabilia and other items such as a Batman pinball machine signed by none other than Adam West.
