The LEGO games kinda went over my head. I tried out LEGO Harry Potter and although it was fun, the building aspect of the game turned me off… which is a huge part of it. And because of that, I never really dived into the LEGO games, even when they started making LEGO Batman games. However, a new game is coming out that may make me reconsider.
Taking its cue from The LEGO Movie, where they pretty much utilized every franchise the toy brick company had a license with, the folks at LEGO are developing a new game called LEGO Dimensions. Here, the game plans to take advantage of multiple popular franchise to create a new dimension-hopping game.
Well, the news here is that the story trailer for the game was released a few days ago. Check it out below:
It looks pretty awesome. There’s a huge emphasis on Batman and another character I’m quite fond of, Gandalf. Plus, LEGO Batman from the LEGO Movie meets up with LEGO Batman from the LEGO Batman game! More Batman makes everything better.
In case you’re confused, the game is introducing the concept of a LEGO Multiverse. In the center of the LEGO Multiverse, there’s a character named Lord Vortech, the main villain of the game. It’s said that the one who takes control of the Foundational Elements that this LEGO prime planet is built upon, will have control over the entire multiverse. So of course, our villain seeks it. In order to do this, he decided to recruit villains from different dimensions via his vortex-opening abilities. For those of us who are familiar to multiverses, most times, when you mess with alternate dimensions, it tears through space-time, thereby causing it to collapse. LEGO Batman, LEGO Gandalf, and Wyldstyle from the LEGO Movie are sucked in, while attempting to save their respective loved ones. I suppose it’s now up to them to stop Lord Vortech and save the multiverse from collapsing.
But of course, you can’t have too much without spending a little money. If you want access to more franchises, characters, levels, and stories, you’ve got to purchase different Packs. It gives the game more replayability, but also provides more revenue for the developer. The Starter Pack is available for pre-order.
LEGO Dimensions will be out September 27th on the Wii, Wii U, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and the Xbox One.
