This book is all kinds of awesome.

Admit it. We all played out this crossover in our youth with action figures. I probably did. And while my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fandom hasn’t followed me into adulthood as my love for Batman has, I still must confess this is a dream come true.

Thanks to a real life crossover between DC and IDW, this six issue mini-series is now a reality and did they ever pick the perfect creative team. James Tynion IV, one of the premier Batman scribes of this generation, writes every character perfectly. From Master Splinter to Alfred Pennyworth, everyone has the “right” voice.

Artistic duties are handled by Freddie Williams II, who really brought his A-game. Every single panel is top notch, with The Dark Knight and the Heroes in a Half-Shell looking incredibly iconic every time you see them. Many of the images seen are a premium action figure waiting to happen.

The basic plot is this: the Turtles and the Foot Clan find themselves stranded in the dimension occupied by Batman and must find their way back. Obviously, the Foot isn’t going to go without some kind of wrongdoing.

A few crossover battles ensue, such as Batman vs. the Foot Clan and TMNT vs. Killer Croc’s crew. When you let that sink in for a moment, they really sound quite natural, don’t they?

While the fateful meeting doesn’t happen until the very end, this is a flawless setup for what will hopefully be one for the ages. DC seems to have the Midas Touch with mini-series this fall and the release of this book further cements that position.
