‘Suicide Squad’s’ Joel Kinnaman Talks Playing Rick Flag

Suicide Squad star Joel Kinnaman has just revealed some new details on his experience playing Rick Flag, including preparation and his relationship with Amanda Waller, in the upcoming DC blockbuster on Yahoo! TV’s Emmy Talk.

On which version of Flag he’ll play, Kinnaman says, “This is definitely the modern iteration of him, where he’s sort of a special forces chameleon.”

In terms of the semi-antagonistic relationship between Rick and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, he says that, “Sometimes Rick has to act against his own moral compass. It’s a fascinating character.”

I spent a lot of time with some tier-one operators, former CIA operatives and also Delta Force operators,” the actor says in terms of preparation for the role. “These are the kind of guys that could have been Rick Flag.”

Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5th, 2016.
