This summer has been filled with DC Comics film news, and the hype train isn’t about to stop yet. With less than a month left until the release of Suicide Squad, more news and insight has been released as to what we might see in the film. As we can see from the trailers, Batman does seem to have a presence of some kind in the film. The folks over at Collider got a chance to talk with the film’s director, the legendary David Ayer, and here’s what he had to say about Batman in the film:
If you look at what Bruce Wayne has done in creating the Batman persona, his idea was to terrorize criminals. It’s sort of psychological warfare against criminals. This wraith that comes in the night and attacks and pulls criminals from society. For the first time, we’re seeing Batman from the point of view of the criminals and he’s freaking scary.
This certainly sounds promising. Batman’s first appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice definitely had a dark and creepy tone (check out the clip below). David Ayer certainly has a point. The trailers for Suicide Squad present a team of rag tag criminals that we are supposed to root for. So, naturally, it would make sense that Batman would be painted in a scary light, since that’s how criminals see him.
Of course the next question is whether or not the trailers have spoiled all of Batman’s scenes. Audiences have almost become used to trailers ruining great moments in films, but David Ayer wanted to put that fear to rest.
We have had some material exposed by virtue of being out on the streets and working out on the streets, but it’s a sliver. It’s a fragment and it’s all out of context. For me it’s a lot of fun just to see how people try and assemble these pieces because in their minds, they’re a much larger piece of the film than they’re actually saying. But it takes days and days to shoot a scene so it’s how does all this fit together? That’s the big surprise.
Suicide Squad releases on August 5th, and pre-sale tickets go on sale this Friday.
