Detective Comics 945

Writer: James Tynion IV

Batman and Harper question Stephanie “Spoiler” Brown about her visit from “The First Victim.” Stephanie seems upset about all of this. Batman tells Batwoman to call the team in, and to receive psyche evaluations from Dr. Leslie Thompkins.

Batwing fixes everyone’s suits to counter the effects of the Victim Syndicate’s powers. Batwoman confronts Batwing about his place on the team. The Syndicate attack Thompkin’s Free Clinic. Batman benches Spoiler from the case. Cut back to the Belfry where we witness Spoiler starts talking to…

This issue felt like it wasn’t finished. A quick conclusion was drawn between Batman’s first encounter with the Red Hood Gang and the Victim Syndicate. I also expected more of an explanation into Spoiler’s meeting with the First Victim. I did like the continuing thread from the first arc featuring the Colony.

The art in this issue seems out of place and jarring, and it left me wondering what happened to Eddy Barrows? The illustrations seemed less like a comic book or graphic novel and more storybook. It just seemed out of place, and matters weren’t helped by having 2 artists working on the story. Tynion has set the bar very high in previous issues, and I hope there is a big payoff coming in this arc.
