Despite an overall dull appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, fans have been excited to finally see the King of Atlantis on the big screen for the first time. Though some are unhappy about seeing their Aquaman sport dark hair, most people that I’ve spoken to have described this Aquaman as badass. And I totally agree.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Aquaman has finally landed a shooting location and budget. Aussies rejoice! Your King of Atlantis will be heading to Gold Coast, Queensland. The production is expected to spend about $111 million USD and provide over 1,000 jobs.
While WB scouted for locations, it seems a bit of a bidding war broke out between different countries to host the huge production. Queensland eventually won by providing a $16 million USD grant.
Jason Momoa’s Aquaman first appeared in a video clip viewed by Diana Prince in BvS. His first full appearance will be in Justice League, where he will be recruited by and fight alongside Batfleck. If the trailer is any indication, Bruce Wayne and Arthur Curry will have a very interesting first meeting. Honestly, it looks like Bruce is pretty easily bested in the trailer, but if I know Wayne, he’s probably just testing him.
Since Batman’s appearance in Suicide Squad, I’ve been wondering if WB/DC will continually use Batman to connect the universe of films together. Though very unlikely, it’s possible that Bruce may appear in the upcoming Wonder Woman, if Diana tells Bruce her story, with the majority of the movie taking place in flashback.
Currently, the rumors are that Batfleck’s Batman movie is circling a 2018 release date. With Aquaman‘s release date also set for the same year, it wouldn’t be too strange for Batman to just show up in an Aquaman movie before his own solo feature comes out. Or that’s just wishful thinking.
The James Wan-directed Aquaman hits theatres on July 27th, 2018.
