Ben Affleck Steps Down From Directing Batman Solo Movie

'Batman v Superman' TV Spot Will "Bring the War to Us" Dark Knight News

Ben Affleck announced that he will be walking away from the director role for the untitled Batman solo movie. However, he will still remain on the film as the star as Batman and producer.

According to Affleck, the responsibilities of acting as the Dark Knight while directing would be too overwhelming for him. He issued a statement regarding him leaving the director’s chair:

“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”

In addition to Affleck’s comments, Warner Bros. issued a statement about the decision:

“Warner Bros. fully supports Ben Affleck’s decision and remains committed to working with him to bring a standalone Batman picture to life.”

While it is sad news to hear, it is not all bad. Warner Bros. and Affleck has already begun the search for directors to replace him. Matt Reeves of War of the Planet of the Apes is said to be on the short list.

Affleck will next appear as Batman in Justice League, opening in theaters on November 17, 2017.
