SDCC 2017: Warner Bros. Developing Joker vs Harley Quinn DCEU Film

From what we have seen so far in the DCEU, Suicide Squad would have you believe that the Joker and Harley Quinn are inseparable.  Madly in love with each other and willing to do anything for the other.  The Clown Prince of Crime and his queen.  Wrecking havoc on Gotham.

One of the side plots of Suicide Squad was the Joker trying to rescue Harley from Amanda Waller’s grasp.  The last time we saw the two, Joker had just freed Harley from Belle Reve, the prison holding the members of the Squad.

However, it seems like the honeymoon part of their twisted relationship might be coming to an end in the DCEU.  Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are said to be in development of a Harley vs the Joker film.  This film will be in addition to the Suicide Squad sequel and Gotham City Sirens, both of which are also slated to feature Margot Robbie’s Harley.  Geoff Johns is set to produce.  No further details or production timeline have been announced.

This news lines up with the news that Geoff Johns wants to create a Batman universe of films that have their own section of the DCEU.  As mentioned in that article, there is such a deep wealth of characters in the Batman section of the DC Universe, it’s difficult to include them all in Batman centered films.  This allows other characters to spread their wings and get their time to shine.

With so many superhero films coming out year after year, it’s commendable to see DC and WB try to mix up the formula.  Instead of the classic good versus evil, we’ve seen good vs good (Batman v Superman), villains as the heroes (Suicide Squad), and now villain vs villain (Harley vs Joker).

The question is, what pits Harley against her puddin’?  Does their rivalry stem from the events of Suicide Squad 2 or Gotham City Sirens?  Has the Joker shifted personalities, as he does many times in the comics, and sees Harley as a threat?  What involvement would Batman have, if any, in this war against lovers?

What are your thoughts of a Harley vs the Joker DCEU film?  Do you think WB is leaning too heavily on the Batman franchise at this point or is this the right move?  Let us know!
