The director of thriller films such as Jane Got a Gun and The Accountant, Gavin O’Connor, has a strong knack for creating action scenes. Perfectly suited for the sequel to Suicide Squad. He will be in charge of writing and directing the sequel. It is not officially confirmed, but the film plans to bring back Will Smith, Margot Robbie, And Jared Leto.
Both Shazam! and Suicide Squad 2 have been moved to a top priority by DC and Warner Bros. which is fantastic given the speed the DCEU is releasing films. By November 17th, 2017 there will be five films officially out (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Justice League).
Despite the negative reviews, Suicide Squad was a massive success, bringing more than $745 million worldwide. Unfortunately, director David Ayer will not be returning for the sequel. This director position had been a hot-topic amongst directors in Hollywood. Other considerations for the directing position were Jaume Collet-Serra and Mel Gibson, both highly recognized directors. Given O’Connor’s work history, he seems like the ideal candidate, and I love how DC Comics and Warner Bros. have been giving space to other directors. It’s amazing how eager the studio is to get started on this. We’re rooting for you, DC!
