Joaquin Phoenix Locked In As Joker For Prequel Movie

After months of speculation, it’s actually happening! Joaquin Phoenix will team with Todd Phillips for a Joker origin story.

This is the dance with the devil in the pan pale moonlight that I have been waiting for!

Word is buzzing today that Joaquin Phoenix has been cast to play The Clown Prince of Crime in the Todd Phillip’s directed prequel.

In this origin film, set to start filming in September, we get to set the early days of the Joker. What will be exciting is to see just which origin they will give Mr. J.

There have been many stories in comics and on film about just where Joker got his start. Jack Nicholson was the first to bring an origin tale to the role for the silver screen in Tim Burton’s Batman (1989). It’s one of my personal favorite adaptations.

Filming in New York, both Todd and Joaquin have stated this will be more a character study of a man. It will differ from Jared Leto’s take on the Joker in Suicide Squad (2016). Leto has gone on record stating he will reprise the role for a second Joker film.

Will The Real Joker Please Stand Up?

This means that hopefully there will be two Joker films in the works. The coolest thing is that they are not connected. Leto and Pheonix’s Jokers will exist in separate universes so we can continue with the next not only Suicide Squad but also the Harley Quinn stand-alone.

No release date has been currently set for the movie, but this is a great time to be a comic fan indeed! With Scott Silver coming on board to help co-write what is rumored as a gritty 80s-esque crime drama, I am shivering with anticipation for more news! Are you anticipating Joaquin Phoenix’s version of the Joker? WIll you support two films about the Clown Prince of Crime? Sound off below and on our social media!
