‘Aquaman’ Director James Wan Wants To Direct A Batman Movie

During a press tour promoting Aquaman, director James Wan expressed an interest in directing a Batman movie.

However, this would not be a traditional superhero film. Wan is more interested in a Batman tale that has deep horror roots.

Here are the director’s thoughts on what he would do with the hypothetical film.

In the past, like most people, I loved the idea of directing Batman, but a horror version of Batman. That would be a potential fantasy of mine, but I feel like he’s been done quite a fair bit. I do love the idea of doing an outright scary Batman. I feel like that’d be really cool.

Wan’s Horror-Style Batman

Could one imagine a Wan-led horror film starring Batman? The possibilities are strong for this idea, given how dark and creepy Batman already is. He could go with psychological thriller, ala American Psycho or Black Swan. Or Wan can go a more traditional horror movie route with tons of jump-scares. Just picture a movie where the protagonist is a criminal being stalked by the mysterious Bat-man creature, like in Alien.

Wan definitely has the experience to make a film like that, since he also helmed recent horror favorites, like The Conjuring and Insidious.
