Funko is releasing commemorative Batman 80th anniversary Pop Vinyls. This hugely popular already line features an assortment of different Batmen from various eras in the Dark Knight’s history: 1939 Batman, 1950’s Batman in Batmobile, 1972 Batman and Robin, Tim Burton’s Batman, and the Movie Moment where Batman punches the Joker off the edge of the church.
Funko Homage’s Batman History
Funko cherry-picked the Batmen to best represent different, past artistic styles. For example, the 1939 Batman evokes Bob Kane’s initial design. Or the the Batman and Batmobile is from Dick Sprang’s era of art. Funko directly homages Carmine Infantino’s run with the Batman and Robin set.
Personally, I find the 1989 Batman Movie Moment set the most surprising inclusion. It is a little odd that Funko decided to make two Pop Vinyls based on Micheal Keaton’s Batman. Even stranger is that Funko chose to represent the scene where Batman pretty much attempts to murder the Joker.
But on other hand, I love seeing 1989 Batman love. Look at the detail! They even got the Joker wearing glasses from that scene.
“You wouldn’t hit a guy with glasses? Huh? Would ya?” Classic.
