Review: Nightwing #57

“Heroes Without A Home”

Writers: Scott Lobdell & Zack Kaplan
Artist: Travis Moore
Color Artist: Tamra Bonvillain
Letterer: Andworld Design

Nightwing issue 57 continues the story following Ric Grayson as he tries to find his way in the world. After the attack on Bludhaven by Scarecrow, the city is trying to recover.

Ric is taking time to himself, and with new beau, Bea, takes a walk through the city. Unknown to him, and the new Nightwings, there is a new evil afoot in the streets of Bludhaven.

Laying The Ground Work

The first issue of a new story line is always the most important one, as it sets up the tone for the rest of the run. I think that Lobdell and Kaplan do a brilliant job with this. They continue the story of Ric Grayson in a very compelling way, and move the story forward. Not only are there parts of Dick Grayson shining through into the personality of Ric, but it seems you can’t keep a good Nightwing down!

Lobdell and Kaplan do an excellent job at not only adding more depth to Grayson, but also at giving their secondary characters their own time to shine. There’s a particular interaction between Bea and Barbara in this issue that I absolutely adore.

Conclusion

Overall yet another fantastic issue of Nightwing as one story-line comes to an end and another begins. I look forward to going on the journey as we discover what the nefarious villain has planned for The Nightwings and Bludhaven. Lobdell and Kaplan have started something spectacular here.
