Suicide Squad Director David Ayer Shares New Photo of Batfleck

Article by Adam Poncharoensub

Recently, Director David Ayer was asked on Twitter about a possible #AyerCut, and the director seemed rather keen on the idea. In light of all of this, Ayer has taken to Instagram to share a new photo of Batfleck.

If you missed it, the Internet broke last month with the announcement that the #SnyderCut was a go. After the dismal reception to Justice League, fans started campaigning to WB to release the version of JL that Zack Snyder originally envisioned. After two years of fan outcry, WB announced the release of the now legendary #SnyderCut of JL. With Snyder at the helm and a $20 million budget, Zack Snyder’s Justice League will see a 2021 release on HBO Max.

After that announcement, Suicide Squad made it into headlines as well. SS is another DC movie that’s rumored to have also suffered from heavy studio interference.

Do you recognize the tactic here? Over the subsequent three years after the release of JL, Zack Snyder shared tons of new photos from the set of JL. The pics oftentimes featured new scenes and plot elements. Ayer seems to be doing something pretty similar here.

Just a kiss?

Take a look at the screenshot of Ayer’s IG story below:

In this photo of Batfleck, we see the Caped Crusader being held down over Harley Quinn. It’s clearly the same scene where Bats attempts to resuscitate Harley, after a dive into Gotham Harbor. This photo just seems to show that after Harley forced the kiss, it lingered a little longer than what was seen in the theatrical cut of the movie.

No new details can be inferred from this photo, however, considering the similarity to Snyder’s actions following JL, it’s more fuel for Ayer vying for his own cut. Or it could just be a coincidence? Ayer could have just found this photo on a hard drive somewhere and felt like sharing.

What do you think? Clever tactic to bring talk of an #AyerCut? Or just a coincidence? Let me know.

Suicide Squad is available to stream at HBO Max now.
